Study on the Risk of Salinity Diffusion in the Water Body After the Connection of Phases II and III of Xuanmen

This paper investigates the risk of salinity diffusion in the Xuanmen Phase II and III freshwater reclamation projects in Yuhuan City, Zhejiang Province, particularly after the removal of the Phase I dam in 2023. A two-dimensional mathematical model was established and validated to simulate the flow and salinity changes in the reservoirs. The results show that water flow exhibits a reciprocating pattern at the site of the former dam, with salinity diffusion mainly influenced by the operational dispatch of the water gates in Phases II and III. During non-rainfall periods, salinity distribution is primarily affected by wind fields, with salinity diffusion concentrated at the connection between Phases II and III. This research provides critical insights into optimizing reservoir management and mitigating salinity diffusion risks.
