Feminist Theater Practices
摘要
This chapter explores feminist theater practices as a target of censorship in Russian theater under Putin. The work of theater director and poet Zhenya Berkovich, who positions herself as a new feminist and strives to bring women’s stories of abuse and oppression to the Russian stage, serves as our focal example. In this effort, Berkovich aims to expose the false premises of the traditional values doctrine formalized by Putin’s Decree No. 809 in November 2022. Svetlana Petriychuk’s 2018 play Finist, The Brave Falcon, directed by Berkovich in 2020, holds a prominent place in this book’s exploration of censorship in Putin’s Russia.
