On (Un)Intentional Insults to the Feelings of Religious Believers
摘要
This chapter explores how the values of the Russian Orthodox Church serve as both the foundation and the tools for shaping a new Russian identity under Putin. Among numerous theater productions and plays that have been prosecuted, removed from the repertoire, or heavily criticized under this legislation, the most exemplary incident is the short performance Punk Prayer: Mother of God, Chase Putin Away staged by the feminist punk-rock group Pussy Riot inside Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Savior on February 21, 2012. This chapter examines the aftermath of this event, as exemplified by several disruptive incidents involving representation of religion on stage.
