Hence, it is critical to ask pertinent questions in advance and determine what sustainability actually means. It is well accepted that achieving sustainability in the textile industry is not an easy task, nor it has one size fits all solution. It is a set of complex issues layered with many challenges that are looking to adopt simple measures at a consistent pace. The chapter discusses various materials as crucial parts of a sustainable supply chain and what alternative materials various manufacturers could adopt as sustainable ones. Furthermore, it illustrates the most significant brands and companies taking pathbreaking initiatives to explore innovative sustainable materials and practices. At the end it also explores the impact of sustainable practices on design in terms of materials and processes, taking into account the system approach of design for a more sustainable future.
