A Study on the Relationship Between Outdoor Thermal Parameters (OTP) in Urban Milieu Case Study—Three Neighborhoods in Biskra City-Algeria

Urban areas experience significantly higher temperatures due to replacing vegetation with asphalt and concrete, leading to the well-documented urban heat island (UHI) effect. This phenomenon results from solar heat absorption by surfaces during the day, causing temperature spikes. To address this issue, numerous studies have utilized urban planning as a primary strategy to mitigate the impact of external thermal factors. Proceeding in this path, this study adopted a four-step research approach. It selected three neighborhoods with varying urban characteristics and conducted field thermal measurements during peak heat in July 2021 using the Testo 480 device. Envi-met was then employed to simulate outdoor thermal parameters in these neighborhoods. Statistical modeling and regression analysis were subsequently applied to explore the relationships between these parameters. The results demonstrated strong correlations between outdoor thermal factors in urban settings, emphasizing the significance of urban design in mitigating the effects of excess solar radiation and high summer temperatures, particularly in regions like Biskra, Algeria. These findings offer valuable insights for urban planners striving to create comfortable environments in hot, arid cities.
