Corresponding Mental Health and Prakriti in Indian Ayurvedic Literature
摘要
Life experiences and individual factors govern the mental health of every single person differently. In continuation of individuality, Ayurveda has a principal notion of Prakriti that expounds the unique peculiarity of a person. This chapter shows how mental health and Prakriti correlate with each other. For the same, the Mental Health Inventory and Prakriti questionnaire were administered among 380 educated youth of Varanasi city having the age group 21–35. Prakriti and Mental Health Status were evaluated and it is pellucid that different Prakriti (i.e., Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) respond differentially toward any physical or mental health issues. It is also found that Vata Prakriti individuals are facing more problems in coping the unfavorable situations and having more mental health distress in comparison to other Prakriti. Ayurveda, the science of holistic approach and one of the importance of Prakriti, acts as preventive medicine and it is suggested that people suffering from any physical or mental health issues must follow Ayurveda Dinacharya (Diurnal regime) and Ritucharya (Seasonal regimes) based on individual Prakriti. It is also proposed that society should emphasize achieving social and environmental solidarity. A positive environment with social warmth will help in reducing mental health distress.
