Food Insecurity and Emotional Experiences in Tribal Community of Vagad Region, Rajasthan, India
摘要
Food insecurity affects human life in varied ways. It can have a huge impact on the physical, mental, and social life of a person. Emotions are complex feelings that impact a person’s behavior and temperament. Human emotions are linked to their community, environment, and livelihood. Emotions are feelings like happiness, sadness, contentment, anger, and so on. The emotions are not stable and the intensity of emotions also varies. This study highlights human attachment to food, nutrition, and diet. Food nurtures emotions and emotions nurtures food. Food insecure households generally hold negative emotions like sadness, anger, demoralization, and so on. This chapter analyses the human emotions linked to food insecurity. This chapter is based on extensive fieldwork done by the authors in the Vagad region of Rajasthan. The data has been collected and quantified to analyze the Food Insecurity Experience scale (repository.uwc.ac.za) and the Emotional Scale of Food Insecurity in food insecure households. Food justice is centered on the principle that food is a basic human right. Despite a mandate to include human rights and social justice content in the social work curriculum, food insecurity and food justice receive scant attention in social work academia. A human rights-based approach to food requires more than access to food; it demands that food also be available, adequate, and culturally acceptable.
