Tourism in Douro and Around Moncorvo: New Opportunities
摘要
Tourism constitutes a possibility to existing traditional sources of revenue for many rural territories. This fact is particularly notable in areas with less social and economic prosperity, such as those in the northern interior of Portugal. The Douro region has seen a people`s decline and a reconfiguration of its economic activities, traditionally very dependent on those in the primary sector, today replaced or complemented by tourism and wine tourism. Torre de Moncorvo and the Douro are no exception to this general panorama, with several proposals to boost tourist activity having emerged in recent years. The main objective of this contribution is to mention some of the values and tourist attractions of this region, particularly the close relationship between the natural and scenic values presents in the wine growing landscapes and their use by Man. The social and economic activities and the natural characteristics related to them and present in the landscape are very important to the local dynamic. They determine the sustainability and the future of Torre de Moncorvo.
