One of the major challenges that environment is facing is the microplastic pollution. This review paper tried to delve into the economic implication of microplastic and its potential sources, impacts and associated cost with it. It also tried to show the economic damage done by microplastic and estimate the global economic cost which can reach up to hundreds of billions of dollars by 2050 if effective measures are not taken soon. It also quantified the willingness to pay as it shows the strong public interest to eradicate it so it will lead to reduce microplastic pollution. It also talks about the effectiveness of present regulatory frameworks and the need to upgrade it. By implementing economic valuation with environment this review aimed to comprehensively understand the dimensions of economics on microplastic pollution and focused on the necessity to safeguard the marine ecosystem and public health.
