The Role of Digital Technologies in Achieving Sustainability

This research paper discusses the common ground between digital technology and sustainability considering how digital technologies play a crucial role on governance, social, and environmental part of sustainability. Both are integral to organizations’ work and operations to reach and approach achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The adoption of digital technologies within sustainable organizations models faces challenges but improves corporate social responsibility and stakeholder’s values. To promote sustainability in the social, economic, and environmental aspects, adopting digital technologies is essential. They facilitate the effective distribution of resources, encourage social integration, and help in mitigating carbon emissions. Opportunities to create renewable energies, sustainable companies presented by the relationship between Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG), digital technology, and sustainability. However, to properly utilize digital technology, issues like e-waste, excessive energy usage, and the digital gap need to be addressed. Although there are obstacles to its implementation, digital technologies must be adopted using sustainable strategies to provide effective solutions. Digital transformation has demonstrated a notable increase in environmental benefits, highlighting the potential to achieve sustainable development and carbon neutrality. This paper provides a study over various journals with the following targets of combining the recent top tier articles in one paper. Focusing on the topics and keywords interrelation. Considering gaps in articles to complement and have future space for improvements. This research includes proposed implications to enhance implementing digital technologies within companies approaching sustainable development goals. This paper outcomes the importance of digital technologies as a breakthrough element to sustainability and sustainable development.
