Remote work effectively mitigates a substantial amount of expenses and energy consumption that are typically associated with physical office spaces. The sustainability benefits of working remotely are very tangible. The article presents the findings of a study concerning the IT sector’s remote work employment in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals. Initially, a review of the literature is made. The research questions stated in the paper are: examining how remote work affects the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals; finding out the reasons why remote work is preferred by employees in the IT sector, and identifying the significant aspects of the environment concerning sustainability in the context of remote work. A survey was conducted among 150 IT sector employees working in Kerala. The data obtained in the survey underwent statistical analysis. The COVID-19 pandemic has perpetuated the need for remote work in the IT sector. Employees exhibit a preference for remote work on account of its time-saving benefits, work comfort, safety, and flexibility. The environmental factors that are most often cited in relation to sustainability are the reductions in hazardous substance emissions from automobile exhaust fumes and the decrease in electricity consumption at office buildings.
