Conventional methods for wax management often involve chemical inhibitors or mechanical interventions, which may not align with sustainability objectives. In response, the exploration of environmentally friendly surfactants capable of efficiently degrading waxes and paraffins has gained traction. Biosurfactants, derived from renewable biological sources, emerge as promising alternatives to petroleum-based surfactants due to their biodegradability, low toxicity, and renewable nature. The isolation and characterization of biosurfactants involve various methods, including solvent extraction and purification techniques, to obtain high-purity products suitable for industrial applications. These biosurfactants exhibit physicochemical properties such as surface tension reduction and emulsification, essential for disrupting wax deposition and facilitating their removal. This review explores the role of isolated recyclable environmental-friendly surfactants in addressing wax and paraffin deposition challenges in the oil and gas industry.
