Blockchain Technology Readiness in Engineering Project Management: Industry Experts’ Perspectives

This study explores the factors influencing an industry’s readiness for implementing and utilizing blockchain technology in engineering project management. Using a qualitative methodology and the exploratory e-Delphi technique, the research draws on insights from eighteen industry experts to evaluate the implementation and operational challenges of blockchain. The Blockchain Technology E-Readiness Framework (BOER and BEER), adapted from the Perceived E-Readiness Model (PERM), is employed to assess both organizational and external readiness factors critical to blockchain adoption. Findings suggest that the existing utilization of blockchain significantly enhances readiness for further adoption, with internal factors such as governance, technical expertise, and resource allocation playing crucial roles. External factors including market forces and technological infrastructure also influence blockchain integration. The study reveals that strategic readiness within firms and supportive regulatory frameworks are essential for effective blockchain adoption and implementation. The implications of these findings extend to improving project management practices through enhanced efficiency, transparency, and collaboration. This research enhances the understanding of technology adoption and readiness, providing a foundation for future studies.
