The sole purpose of becoming a nurse is to be academically and clinically prepared to provide healthcare—assessments, diagnoses, planning, interventions, and evaluations—to patients. However, nursing is much more than a career; it is a vocation. For the nurse, the patient is representative of life and death. Instability of health is the driving factor of the presentation of persons to the healthcare system. The achievement of wellness or the return to a homeostatic state is the goal that nurses focus upon in the care of patients who are ill. Hence, patients are at the forefront of nursing as a profession because patients matter first.
