The concept of a circular economy has emerged as one of the most promising alternatives to traditional linear economic models considered as “take, make, and dispose.” Human Circular Supply Chain Management introduces the philosophy of a circular economy within supply chain management, offering new insights into supply chain sustainability that have driven up the research interest in this area. However, the current literature lacks an integrated overview about HCSCM. This conceptual ambiguity makes it difficult to outline the hypothesis of how HCSCM differs from other supply chain models focused on sustainability and therefore hampers further development in the field. Addressing the challenge, this study classifies diverse terminologies related to supply chain sustainability and presents a unified definition of HCSCM. It also presents a structured analysis of the literature review based on 261 research works that analyze the current status of HCSCM research. From this review, identified key and emerging research directions include design for circularity, procurement in HCSCM, biodegradable packaging, circular supply chain collaboration and coordination, HCSCM drivers and barriers, circular consumption, product liabilities and producer responsibility, and the role of technology in HCSCM.
