Creative Learning Using Generative AI: Empowering Problem-Solving and Programming Skills

This chapter discusses the different opinions about integrating generative artificial intelligence (Gen-AI) technologies into education systems in general and programming education in particular. Computer programming with writing code scripts is a way to empower learners’ creativity. Through coding, they can create projects about things they care for and learn strategies for design and problem-solving. Traditional approaches to educate computer programming are thriving through the Gen-AI era because our digital world still needs enormous contributions. However, the rocketing development of Gen-AI technologies is now raising the bars of education standards and revealing the widening gap between traditional education systems and the labour market requirements for skills graduates need. This rapid development was met with a move by the concerned educational authorities to explore ways to benefit from these advanced technologies to improve the quality of education and qualify students for the new jobs that will be created based on it. This chapter summarises several studies conducted to test the integration of Gen-AI tools. It offers best practices and recommendations reached by researchers to maximise the benefit of these technologies and mitigate their adverse effects.
