Estimations based on the partial information available point to a job growth in both online web-based and location-based platforms in the Latin American region. The expansion of this type of work is a double-edged sword in terms of impact on labor relations. On one hand, matching algorithms allow platforms to connect workers to the tasks best suited to their skills and experience. On the other hand, workers are constantly evaluated for their services and face a completely opaque system which lacks transparency about how people are assessed or how they obtain the job. The aim of this chapter is to map the existing legislation and regulation of algorithms in the gig economy in the Latin American countries. The analysis shows an uneven development of the initiatives in the different studied contexts. The chapter finishes with a set of conclusions and a set of recommendations.
