What is an ordinary differential equation? What are the objectives of the study of differential equations? Differential equations usually describe dynamic processes, physical laws, feedback systems, etc. In this chapter we present several examples, as growth of population, equations of motion based on Newton’s laws, simple electric circles, etc. The examples introduce in a natural way linear and nonlinear equations and the need for initial values.
