Nano-Based Bioinks for Biomedical Applications

Nano-based bioinks offer a promising solution to overcome the limitations of traditional hydrogel-based bioinks, driven by the increasing sophistication of 3D bioprinting technologies. By integrating nanomaterials with unique properties and nanoscale dimensions, these bioinks offer enhanced therapeutic efficacy, precision, and structural integrity for biomedical engineering and tissue regeneration. Bioinks can incorporate nanomaterials to deliver bioactive agents, provide structural support, and modulate cellular behavior. These nano-engineered bioinks can improve viscosity, printability, and biocompatibility, enabling the formation of more sophisticated tissue constructs. In this chapter, we delve into the advancements in nano-based materials for tissue regeneration, exploring their ability to address critical challenges in biomedical engineering and tissue regeneration. We will also discuss the environmental impact of these emerging technologies and identify fundamental limitations that must be addressed to realize their optimal performance. By understanding the opportunities and limitations of nano-based bioinks, we aim to foster innovation in sustainable strategies for future healthcare.
