Collecting Practices
摘要
Analysis of the materials described in Chap. 3 identified eight high-level practices that apply to most collections: initiate (starting a collection); equip (putting in place a suitable infrastructure and facilities); acquire (obtaining things); deposit (ingesting things into the collection); use (enjoying and/or making use of the collection); reveal (informing others about the collection and sharing its contents); maintain (keeping the collection in good order); dispose (getting rid of some or all of the collection). All of these high-level practices are broken down into second-level practices, or even third-level practices, and examples are given. Troubles that seem inherent to collecting as an endeavour (i.e., not caused by IT) are also considered.
