Axes of Resistance: Yemen’s Case
摘要
This recurring assertion about the phenomenal development of the Ansar Allah movement in record time remains shared by several specialists in the Yemeni conflict. The rise could certainly not have happened without former President Saleh’s agreement with al-Houthis. Since some parts of the Yemeni army loyal to the former president joined the insurgency. As a result, al-Houthis gained access to military bases and equipment, including tanks, helicopters, and missiles. In this reversal of the Yemeni’s field by creating alliances and defeating others, the role of the Revolutionary Guard Corps and its Quds Force, as well as Hezbollah, in turn lent credence to the transformation of the Ansar Allah movement from a Zaydi tribal minority to a military force and provided the Islamic Republic of Iran with a point of access to the Bab al-Mandab Strait. This “success” overthrew the government of President Hadi and the Ansar Allah movement’s takeover of the capital Sana’a. It attests to the capacity of this movement to organise itself, to structure itself, and above all to exist by controlling the North of Yemen. This situation certainly deserves to be analysed more closely.
