Implementing a formal ultrasound program offers numerous advantages to healthcare organizations. However, it is essential to address the associated security risks stemming from the hardware, software, and network and integration mechanisms used to transmit data essential for supporting clinical workflows. It is vital to implement proper security measures to significantly minimize the surface area for cyberattacks. Doing so will assist in safeguarding a healthcare system from falling victim to ransomware or security breaches exposing sensitive information. By deploying diagnostic ultrasound at scale, healthcare systems can ensure that patients receive timely and effective care, leading to improved treatment outcomes and patient satisfaction. Furthermore, integrating ultrasound data with electronic health records (EHRs) and PACS systems enhances patient care by increasing access to comprehensive medical records. These integrations streamline the flow of information, leading to more coordinated and efficient care delivery. Additionally, EHR and PACS integration enables the secure storage and retrieval of ultrasound images and reports, reducing administrative burden and ensuring data integrity.
