As the use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) grows and becomes more ubiquitous in clinical practice, the need for well-trained leaders for these clinical programs will only increase. This chapter details the multifaceted role of the ultrasound director, focusing on four key pillars: clinical skill, operations, research/review, and education (CORE). The director’s responsibilities include maintaining compliance, overseeing credentialing, providing educational resources, and ensuring quality assurance. Compensation and time allocation are crucial considerations, with benchmarks suggesting reduced clinical effort and appropriate financial recognition. Ongoing priorities are also discussed, emphasizing the importance of building internal and external relationships, staying abreast of national guidelines and requirements, and fostering career growth opportunities within and beyond the POCUS domain.
