Interventional radiology (IR) plays a pivotal role in trauma care, leveraging minimally invasive, image-guided vascular and non-vascular techniques to manage traumatic injuries safely and efficiently. This chapter emphasizes the importance of IR within the multidisciplinary trauma team. Early imaging workup of trauma patients with computed tomography (CT) is critical, as it is both fast and sensitive, easily tailored to specific patient injuries, and invaluable in planning IR procedures. In acute trauma settings, intravascular interventions such as embolization and stenting, using a variety of therapeutic agents and devices, are mainstays of treatment. These IR techniques can be performed without general anesthesia, providing an alternative to surgery. IR is also integral in managing secondary complications in the subacute trauma patient. IR’s integration into the trauma teams enhances patient outcomes through rapid, precise, and multidisciplinary care approaches, underscoring its essential role in modern trauma management.

摘要
