In trauma, we focus on the practice of quality assessment; we know when things are not right and need further improvement. Sometimes, it is difficult to initiate, introduce, and implement the changes that are needed for improvement. The science of quality improvement (QI) allows us to focus on changes, and measurements of these changes to know when improvement is occurring or needs to be further emphasized. QI leads to further improvements in our processes, and delivery of care, to change a system, which in turn will lead to better trauma patient care and outcomes.
