Forensic anthropology and taphonomy in Switzerland offer unique challenges and opportunities due to the country”s diverse topography, climates, and socio-political structures. This study explores current practices, casework, and the evolving role of these disciplines within the Swiss forensic framework. Key challenges include the recovery and identification of remains in mountainous and forested environments, where natural agents like snow, animals, and vegetation significantly affect taphonomic processes. The case studies highlight scenarios ranging from skeletal remains scattered in alpine terrains to historical bones found in urban areas, emphasizing the interdisciplinary collaboration required for effective forensic investigations. Despite its relatively low homicide rate and specific forensic casework volume, Switzerland has seen advancements in forensic anthropology and taphonomy, including institutionalization, education, and innovative techniques like radiocarbon dating and 3D visualization. This study underscores the importance of contextual analysis and interdisciplinary approaches in addressing complex forensic and archaeological cases in Switzerland.
