Film Comedy
摘要
This chapter focuses on the two main genres of comedy in cinema, comedian and romantic comedy, both of which have attracted considerable attention from philosophers and film scholars informed by philosophy. It first traces the evolution of these genres and clarifies their conventions. It then examines prominent philosophical accounts of them by the likes of Simon Critchley, Tom Gunning, Gilles Deleuze, Noël Carroll, and Stanley Cavell, while pointing to some possible limitations of these philosophical accounts.
