This chapter opens with personal reflections on the process of co-creating Humane Composition Pedagogy. We also share our vision for the future of higher education, situating HCP as an optimistic act of resistance against the crisis rhetoriccrisis rhetoric and pessimism that characterizes current discourses on higher education. In response to critics who predict that the future of higher education will involve a decentralized and mechanized “knowledge economy,” we advocate for the importance of centering human connection and community in college classrooms.
