Enteroviruses
摘要
Enteroviruses are a large group of viruses that can cause a variety of clinical diseases in infants. Infections can be acquired congenitally or, more commonly, postnatally through contact with stool or respiratory secretions from an infected individual. Asymptomatic or nonspecific illnesses are most common, but more severe infections including sepsis, meningoencephalitis, and myocarditis can result. Preterm infants and those with disease onset in the first week of life are at highest risk. Mortality is largely determined by clinical presentation, with myocarditis and encephalitis causing the highest mortality. In addition to supportive care, intravenous immunoglobulin may be beneficial if it contains sufficient neutralizing antibody for the serotype of enterovirus causing the infection.
