Stringent regulatory measures are currently being enforced to curb greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions originating from maritime activities, underscoring the imperative for the adoption of environmentally friendly propulsion technologies. This study aims to explore the viability of green liquid hydrogen (LH2) as a zero-emission alternative fuel within the maritime sector. A comprehensive examination of the green LH2 value chain is provided, encompassing the intricacies of production techniques, storage prerequisites, and the integration of green LH2 within both internal combustion engines (ICE) and hydrogen fuel cells (HFC). Moreover, an environmental assessment is conducted to assess the ecological footprint of green LH2, with a particular focus on its potential to substantially mitigate air emissions. Additionally, the study delves into the economic ramifications, safety considerations, and technical hurdles associated with the deployment of LH2, stressing the necessity of stringent regulatory frameworks and innovative strategies to manage associated risks effectively. Sustained research endeavors, coupled with the development of requisite infrastructure and optimization of costs, are deemed essential for realizing the full potential of green LH2 as a mainstream maritime fuel source, thereby fostering the advancement of sustainable transportation practices within the maritime industry.

摘要
