Preserving Landscape Heritage in the Face of Urban Expansion: A Methodology for Developing a Landscape Catalog in Arequipa, Peru
摘要
Economic pressures and the need for urban expansion have led to changes in land use of valuable landscape areas, particularly in developing countries. Government organizations responsible for protecting landscape heritage frequently lack the tools necessary to assess these landscapes for the purposes of urban planning and city management. This article proposes a methodology to systematically develop a Landscape Catalog, taking the Carmen Alto and Tocrahuasi area in Arequipa, Peru as a case study. To accomplish this, the proposed instrument has two phases. The initial step involves choosing landscape focal points and determining their visibility relations using a Geographic Information System. In the second phase, the identification of the elements that make up the urban landscape and its components is carried out through the landscape catalog, which includes aspects of the physical environment that compose it and intangible social aspects derived from customs, traditions, and the way of life of the communities. The specific results will be observed in 18 identification sheets, which are the result of the different previous activities carried out in the second phase, which allows us to tangibly recognize the landscape as an experiential element, configured from the local experience, feelings of belonging, and identity.
