Mushroom-derived cosmeceuticals in skincare have been gaining considerable attention due to their skin health benefits in an eco-friendly and sustainable manner. This chapter explores the other transformative ability of mushrooms in beautifying and ensuring a healthy skin. Owing to their high antioxidant content, mushrooms prevent premature skin aging and the decline of collagen and elastin levels as they scavenge free radicals. Their polysaccharides also provide exceptional moisturization, which ensures a reasonable amount of water is maintained to avert dryness and dullness. For instance, shiitake mushroom extracts have been useful in lightening skin by inhibiting melanin synthesis and dealing with hyperpigmentation. While doing so, mushrooms also possess soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, making them suitable for sensitive and acne-prone skin. Protecting the skin from damage and psychological stress results in self-enhancement and stimulates collagen production within the body, which helps to smooth out fine wrinkles and rejuvenate skin. This chapter underscores the natural goodness of mushrooms and their potential to change the face of skincare by offering safe and effective means of achieving a healthy and glowing skin. Mushroom-based cosmetics align with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), as these are natural, nontoxic, renewable, environmentally friendly, and sustainable sources, owing to overall good health and well-being.
