In the late Nineteenth and early Twentieth centuries, psychology began to emerge in Venezuela during significant changes in society. However, at this early stage, the discipline was more closely linked to philosophy and education. In 1954, the Venezuelan Society of Psychology (SVP) was established, marking an important milestone in the formal development, consolidation, and recognition of psychology in the country. This organization became a meeting point for psychologists and related professionals. As the twentieth century progressed, academic programs in psychology were established in several universities in the country. The training of professionals in psychology was consolidated, contributing to the growth and recognition of the discipline. The availability of educational programs was essential to nurture the knowledge and skills of future psychologists. Nevertheless, psychology in Venezuela has been influenced by international trends and tendencies, which reflects an openness to different theoretical approaches enriching the practice and research in psychology by integrating varied perspectives. Approaches such as behaviorism, psychoanalysis, humanistic psychology, and cognitive psychology, among others, have been adopted and adapted.
