The GBA connects the brain, gut, immune system, and gut bacteria, and imbalanced gut bacteria leads to dysbiosis, which can lead to inflammation and promote tumor growth. The gut-brain axis does not just impact cancer growth, it also affects mental health and brain function through inflammation, leading to cognitive issues and mood changes in CRC patients. Chemicals produced by the gut’s nervous system, like neurotransmitters and cytokines, play a big role in how cancer cells behave, helping them grow and spread while impacting the immune system. Recently developed treatment options are being studied that focus on restoring gut health with probiotics, prebiotics, and psychobiotics, which may help to slow down tumor growth. Immunotherapy advancements, including CAR T cell therapy and new ways to deliver drugs through nanotechnology, are opening doors for more targeted cancer treatments. By combining advanced treatment strategies with traditional methods, doctors can create more personalized strategies for managing CRC.
