Aligned and Misaligned Personas: Same Office-Forward Company, Different Work Experiences
摘要
In this chapter, we show how the degree of alignment between these personas’ work location preference and their company’s office-forward strategy, influences Officers’, Progressives’, and Producers’ work experience. Officers are in perfect alignment: they work in an office-forward company and have an @office preference. Officers rushed back to the office as soon as it opened after the COVID-19 lockdown. They are fiercely protective of their beloved company culture and often express disapproval of home-preferring coworkers who “empty their dishwashers while I’m here, building community with my colleagues.” Progressives are half-aligned to their company’s office-forward strategy as they have an @hybrid preference. Progressives often “feel torn” when coming into work; they liken the experience to going to the gym—hard to go, but happy to have gone because “the energy here is so much higher.” At the same time, Progressives have become firm supporters of their home-preferring colleagues, and are pushing their company to shake the old-school office-forward culture. Producers are in complete misalignment with their company’s office-forward strategy as they have an @home preference. Their lived experience is one of quiet and unhappy acquiescence. They go into the office because it is “required” but internally, as one Producer explained: “I’m just sitting there, thinking: We could be doing this at home.”
