Integrating Biological Frameworks Into Smart Urban Scaling Through Large Language Models

Rapidly developing cities face a challenge in their urban growth and infrastructure expansion that requires sophisticated, data-driven frameworks to sustain development. Large language models (LLMs) are an excellent tool for analyzing massive urban data, finding patterns, and predicting real-time resource needs. This chapter leverages DNA replication and biological systems for designing a bio-inspired framework, where LLMs enable the sustainable scaling of urban systems by optimizing resource allocation and informing decision-making processes. By drawing analogies between cellular replication mechanisms and the replication requirements of urban ecosystems, this framework can inform how LLMs can facilitate the replication of all forms of knowledge across urban datasets, ultimately leading to sophisticated and robust urban planning. We present case studies to show how LLMs can be utilized in the management of traffic, energy distribution, and pollution control and discuss their critical role in the sustainable development goals of cities.
