Jobelyn® (JB), a food supplement derived from the polyphenol-rich leaf sheath of Sorghum bicolor, has gained attention for its potential health benefits. However, its effects on hypertension remain unexplored. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Jobelyn® on biochemical, hematological, and histological parameters in sodium chloride (NaCl)-induced hypertension model of albino rats. Twenty-four albino rats were randomly divided into four groups (n = 6 per group) as follows: control, NaCl-induced without treatment, NaCl-induced treated with amlodipine (10 mg/kg BW), and NaCl-induced treated with Jobelyn® (250 mg/kg BW). Hypertension was induced by administering 8% NaCl solution for 3 weeks. Treatment lasted for 3 weeks, after which all animals were sacrificed. Blood and liver samples were collected for biochemical, hematological, and histopathological analyses. Jobelyn® treatment significantly (p < 0.05) reduced systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial blood pressure, and heart rate compared to the untreated NaCl-induced group. Biochemical analysis revealed significant (p < 0.05) reductions in aspartate aminotransferase and urea levels in the Jobelyn®-treated group. White blood cell count, platelet count, and lymphocyte levels were significantly (p < 0.05) lower in the Jobelyn®-treated group compared to the control. Liver histopathological examination showed mild vascular congestion in untreated NaCl-induced with no abnormalities in the Jobelyn®-treated group. These findings suggest that Jobelyn® may have therapeutic potential in hypertension management and associated complications.
