Prison Art Therapy: Overview of Previous Studies and Initiatives
摘要
This chapter reviews the history and current state of prison art therapy, with a focus on Australian correctional settings. It highlights the scarcity of art therapy programs in prisons and their significant potential for addressing mental health issues, promoting self-expression, and fostering rehabilitation. Drawing on international and Australian initiatives, the chapter explores the challenges of program implementation, including ethical considerations, cultural barriers, and methodological gaps in research. It underscores the need for professionally facilitated, evidence-based art therapy programs to enhance inmate well-being, reduce recidivism, and bridge societal divides through creative engagement.
