ES4AL: A Website for Effectiveness Study for Algorithm Learning in Computer Science
摘要
In this study, a website was implemented called ES4AL (Effectiveness Study For Algorithm Learning) to help educators evaluate the effectiveness of different teaching methods for students learning about sorting algorithms. ES4AL enables students to explore four different sorting algorithms through three distinct video-based learning methods: Kinesthetic Learning Activity (KLA) dance, visual animation, and recorded traditional lecture. These three new online modules are a viable alternative to traditional lecture and KLA in the classroom. First, the website assigns a sorting algorithm for the student to learn using one of the three learning methods. After taking a pre-test and watching an educational video, a post-test assesses how much their knowledge about the algorithm has improved. This data is then collected and displayed in a user-friendly interactive chart, serving as a valuable tool for teachers seeking the most effective teaching method for their students. The study aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of three online video teaching methods, and to assist educators by providing valuable insights that support the unique learning needs of their students.
