The world is facing increasing energy demand leading to the promotion of the adoption of sustainable practices. Net zero-energy buildings (NZEBs) are being widely promoted as sustainable practices in the construction field. NZEBs are structures that are capable of generating an equal amount of energy that the structure consumes over a prescribed period. The NZEBs promote sustainability by reducing energy consumption which is stated to be the primary factor in producing CO2. Though the NZEBs concept is being widely promoted in Western countries, there is a huge gap seen on the status of the NZEBs in developing nations such as India. The present research aims to explore the status of the NZEBs in India majorly focusing on the rural and urban areas. It is evaluated from the research work that the construction workers know the concept of the NZEBs but have no proper in-depth knowledge due to a lack of practical involvement. Longitudinal studies to assess the long-term impacts of these interventions.
