This chapter reviews the indications and considerations for amputation in Dupuytren’s contracture. The primary goal in treating this condition is to improve hand function and reduce contracture without amputation. However, amputation may be necessary for some patients, especially those with severe functional impairments, significant contractures unresponsive to surgery, or skin issues like ulcers or necrosis. It may also be considered for patients with recurrences after multiple surgeries or complications from prior procedures. Amputation is typically a last resort when a patient’s quality of life is severely affected. The decision should be made collaboratively between the physician and patient after careful discussion.
