Approaches to Exploring Organizational Dynamics in Flexible Work Environments: A Discussion on the Development of Qualitative Methods in Current Organizational Behavior Research
摘要
As flexible work arrangements reshape modern organizations, understanding their impact on workplace dynamics requires a deeper and more insightful approach. While quantitative methods provide broad statistical trends, they often fail to capture the complexity of human interactions in evolving work environments. This chapter highlights the importance of qualitative research in exploring the relationships, informal networks, and organizational behaviors that influence flexible work models. Through methods such as participant observation, interviews, and document analysis, researchers can uncover how employees navigate remote and hybrid work settings, maintain collaboration across distances, and adapt to shifting team structures. These approaches offer valuable perspectives on communication patterns, team cohesion, and decision-making processes in workplaces that no longer rely solely on traditional office interactions. Additionally, this chapter explores the need to combine face-to-face and online data collection to reflect the realities of hybrid work. By integrating digital and in-person research methods, organizations gain a clearer understanding of the challenges and opportunities created by flexible work environments. By embracing qualitative approaches, organizational behavior research moves beyond numbers to capture the real experiences and social dynamics shaping today’s workforce. This perspective provides leaders and scholars with essential tools to strengthen employee engagement, adaptability, and collaboration in the evolving world of work.
