Epilogue
摘要
This epilogue summarises and discusses the findings of the various chapters in this edited volume. First, we discuss the measurement of job insecurity and its distinction in a quantitative versus qualitative dimension. Secondly, the well-being and performance outcomes of both dimensions are summarised, followed by an overview of the findings regarding explanations of the job insecurity-outcomes relationship in academia. Next to mediation, also results regarding moderators of (or boundary conditions for) this relationship are discussed. We then discuss whether the findings are identical for the three main professional categories in academia: professors (academic staff), PhD students and post-doctoral fellows, and administrative (support) staff. The epilogue is complemented by a description of results regarding the causal attribution of job insecurity in academia, and a discussion regarding the future impact of technology and artificial intelligence. Finally, some suggestions for policy and practice are presented, as well as a take-home message.
