Sleep is a fundamental part of health that impacts our ability to fully engage with the world around us, including how we feel, think, remember, and heal. Sleep disorders are not uncommon among children and adolescents. The cause of sleep disturbances can vary from a primary insomnia, to an underlying psychiatric condition, to medical conditions. A workup and careful evaluation of sleep is warranted to address the root cause, however sleep hygiene and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i) have been proven effective among children and adolescents to improve sleep regardless of etiology.
