Psychosomatic Disorders
摘要
Children and adolescents commonly present in healthcare settings with somatic symptoms, some meeting criteria for a psychosomatic disorder. This chapter reviews the signs and symptoms, predisposing and precipitating factors, diagnosis, and treatment of psychosomatic disorders. Historically, these conditions have not been viewed positively and, at times, have been assumed to be falsified or feigned. Psychosomatic disorders must be discerned from psychiatric and other medical conditions, though these may be comorbid. As a healthcare provider, it is important to recognize these disorders and direct children to appropriate treatment as there is an opportunity for full recovery.
