Human trafficking is ubiquitous and occurs across the lifespan. However, many victims’ entry into exploitation occurs before adulthood. For a multitude of reasons, youth is a risk factor for labor and sex trafficking. Schools and school-based health practitioners are uniquely positioned to intervene through trauma-informed care practices and survivor-informed response protocols. This chapter walks the school-based health professional through a case of human trafficking and provides reasoning and resources for a trauma-informed, patient-centered response to youth exploitation.
