Students with Medical Devices: Ventricular Shunts
摘要
Children with hydrocephalus require constant diversion of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), most often via a ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt. Malfunction or infection of these shunts can be life-threatening if not identified early and referred for appropriate management. This chapter will describe the basics of assessment and management of children with VP shunts, with a brief discussion on the unique school accommodations necessary for this patient population.
