Genetic disorders are many, variable, and complex. This chapter will highlight two conditions that are genetic in origin but have very different clinical phenotypes, natural histories, and complications. Down syndrome is the most common chromosomal cause of intellectual disability. Achondroplasia is the most common cause of disproportionate short stature. The following case studies will discuss common symptoms and complications and will discuss current suggestions on managing and improving quality of life.
