The academic success of all children, regardless of chronic medical condition, is dependent on providing them with an inclusive learning environment. This chapter addresses two case studies of chronically ill students and the importance of implementing individualized plans to meet the student’s special health care needs related to the education environment. These plans can include Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), 504 Plans, and Individualized Health Care Plans (IHPs). Implementing these plans can lead to continued support in the academic environment where their diagnosis and/or disability is accommodated or modified with health-related supports.

摘要

The academic success of all children, regardless of chronic medical condition, is dependent on providing them with an inclusive learning environment. This chapter addresses two case studies of chronically ill students and the importance of implementing individualized plans to meet the student’s special health care needs related to the education environment. These plans can include Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), 504 Plans, and Individualized Health Care Plans (IHPs). Implementing these plans can lead to continued support in the academic environment where their diagnosis and/or disability is accommodated or modified with health-related supports.
