Fever is a common reason why a student may present to your office. Most of the time they will appear well with a non-emergent cause for their fever, but unfortunately they may have a life-threatening condition that requires immediate transport to an emergency department. In this chapter we will discuss common myths regarding fever, likely reasons why a student may present with a fever, and strategies you can use to determine when a student with fever requires a higher level of care.
